Old-fashioned electric co-ops help fill rural broadband gaps
Cooperatives that arose out of 1930s New Deal policies to bring electricity to rural areas are expanding into the broadband business, hoping the investment will boost their local economies and keep young workers from migrating to cities. Most of these areas are too spread out for larger telecoms to serve profitably, CenturyLink's Mark Soltes says. The Denver Post/The Associated Press
