SMART GRID - THE COST OF PEAK TIME IN BRAZIL

SMART GRID - THE COST OF PEAK TIME IN BRAZIL

Artigo de João Batista Santos

In 2011, Brazilian consumers paid about 1 billion U.S. dollars by Thermoelectric Plants that are used - or standby - at Peak Times.
The average per capita consumption in Brazil tends to increase considerably in the next year at peak times

This account is likely to increase further with the increase of the income distribution in Brazil more consumers are entering the middle class.
With this more electric-electronic equipment are added to the Grid, especially at peak times, it seems that this happening in several developing countries.

The Brazilian petroleum company stated that by 2015 will not increase the supply of gas for Thermoelectric Plants.
With this more fossil fuel - with higher levels of pollutants - will be added to the Grid.

Then there is a large and long avenue for applications of DSM/DR and Differentiated Rates.
The Utilities and consumers can reach an agreement on how to use this 1 billion USA dollars more wisely and rationally, the money is already there!
It would be a waste and a shame not to use this money which is already paid for all consumers on their monthly energy bill
