Metrycom
brings the value of Internet of Things to Utilities who want to gain
continuous visibility over their high voltage transmission and
distribution lines, reduce maintenance cost and increase reliability and
safety. Metrycom's system utilizes smart induction sensors,
self-developed inexpensive mesh radios and proprietary algorithms to
detect flashovers and variations in the electrical field patterns and
translate them into meaningful information that is processed, mapped and
visualized to network managers and maintenance engineers. Due to its
hands-on experience and unique interdisciplinary experience, Metrycom
demonstrated a cost-effective solution which returns its costs within
months. Metrycom website>>
ENBALA Power Networks
has confirmed with its expertise the value that commercial and
industrial electric utility customers can provide to the management of
today’s evolving grid. For instance, utility customers are currently
supporting the integration of intermittent wind power through real-time,
dispatchable demand management in eastern Canada. ENBALA’s GOFlex
technology platform is helping change the way utilities reliably engage
with their customers for demand management programs to improve grid
operability, reliably integrate renewables and defer infrastructure
upgrades – reducing operating costs and enhancing overall system
efficiencies. In 2014, ENBALA will continue to transform the electricity
industry through the intelligent management of demand-side loads. ENBALA website>>

Comverge
is a company to watch as it works with utilities to realize demand
response as an essential component of the smart grid. In 2014, demand
response will finally morph from a last line of defense solution for
utilities into an operational resource with the real-time
predictability, accuracy and reliability needed to serve as an integral
part of the utility’s supply stack – meaning DR resources can now be
used to integrate intermittent sources of renewable energy, and as part
of a utility’s energy trading strategy. With its DirectLink line of
hardware and advancements to its IntelliSOURCE software platform, Comverge is delivering the technology that makes this a reality. Comverge website>>
