smart grid wins. From outage management and analytics to energy storage
and metering… and two interesting partnerships.
Milsoft’s Outage
Management System (OMS) and Milsoft Interactive Voice Response has been
chosen by Hamilton Utilities, Ohio. The utility is investing in
infrastructure and technologies for system operations and customer
service to ensure that it provides the most cost-effective, responsive
and reliable service possible. This includes the acquisition of Milsoft
Outage Management System and Milsoft Interactive Voice Response

has been chosen by Baltimore Gas & Electric to provide its smart
grid analytics software. achieve its goal of ensuring cost-effective,
efficient, and reliable energy delivery as it continues to develop its

Landis+Gyr
notes that Newport, Oregon-based Central Lincoln People’s Utility
District has signed a five-year contract for Gridstream(R) MDMS to host
the utility’s advanced metering data. Central Lincoln’s software and
data storage will be hosted by Landis+Gyr as part of its Cloud Services

Battelle
and a Massachusetts startup have signed a license agreement for
Battelle to commercialize battery technology that can help store large
amounts of renewable energy and improve the reliability of the nation's
power grid. The license with Lowell, Mass.-based WattJoule Corporation
is expected to advance the commercial use of redox flow battery

Itron will
provide Texas-New Mexico Power (TNMP), electricity provider to nearly
240,000 customers throughout Texas, analytics software as a service to
ensure the data from its Itron advanced metering network creates
additional value for the utility and its customers. TNMP is more than
halfway through its deployment of Itron’s network solution that utilizes

GE Lighting
was chosen to provide its intelligent lighting system, including LED
street lighting, by the city of San Diego, making it the first city in
the United States to adopt GE’s LightGrid™ technology. The new system,
set to be in place by spring of this year, will offer improved and
energy-efficient lighting that will save the city more than a
quarter-million dollars in energy costs each year. Read more >>
Comverge
has been selected by Fort Collins Utilities to implement a residential
demand response program. Using Comverge IntelliSOURCE software,
IntelliTEMP DirectLink smart thermostats, IntelliPEAK DirectLink control
switches and OpenADR protocol, the system relies on customer broadband
connections to enable the information exchange required to deploy
successful two-way demand response programs. Read more >>
PARTNERSHIPS
SunSpec Alliance and the MESA Standards Alliance
announced a joint effort to advance common communication standards for
energy storage devices to lower costs and increase customer adoption.
The MESA standards are an open, non-proprietary set of specifications
and standards to accelerate interoperability, scalability, safety,
quality, availability and affordability in energy storage components and

L&T Technology Services and Proximetry
to bring modular device management to a variety of smart metering and
substation monitoring solutions. This combined solution from Proximetry
and L&T Technology Services will benefit a growing market of communicating devices critical for operation of electrical substations and large industrial facilities. Read more >>
AWARDS AND HONORS
Leidos will receive the 2013 Climate Change Business Journal (CCBJ) award for Technology Merit: Smart Grid and Energy Management. The CCBJ, a business research publication, will
recognize Leidos for its role as the system integrator of an
intelligent load management system that can provide cheaper integration
of wind power and replace expensive supply-side generation options with
